On Monday, 29th September 2025, the NEC leadership of the Society of Community Health held a strategic meeting with the leadership of the Kenya Health Professions Oversight Authority (KHPOA) chaired by the Dr. Kioko Jackson (CEO, KHPOA) to deliberate on pertinent issues affecting Community Health Officers and Assistants in Kenya. The discussions focused on the following areas of priority: 1. Call for strengthening and recognition of the KHPOA interim license across the 47 counties. 2. Enforcement of professional standards within community health practice and training. 3. Addressing concerns over malpractice spearheaded by increasing number of training institutions despite the recent inspections conducted by KHPOA in some of the institutions. 4. Harmonization and improved training through a unified curriculum, clear occupational standards, and standardized nomenclature for community health practice.

MEETING WITH KHPOA CEO DR. KIOKO JACKSON AT KMPDC PLAZA

A consultative meeting that took place between the NEC officials of the Society of Community Health and the CEO of the Kenya Health Professions Oversight Authority, Dr. Kioko Jackson, at the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council Plaza , Woodlands Road, Hurlingham, Nairobi. Key Discussion Points: 1. Accreditation of the Society of Community Health to issue CPD points for licensed Community Health Officers and Assistants. 2. Advocacy for regulating institutions offering Community Health programs in Kenya. 3. Push for standardizing the Community Health curriculum, service scope, and occupational standards. 4. Call for scrutiny of the employment of unqualified individuals masquerading as Community Health Officers and Assistants by various County Public Service Boards.
